  • Distinguish the different subtypes of stroke.
  • Discuss diagnostic tools used to evaluate patients with a clinical diagnosis of stroke.
  • Explain vascular risk factor management recommendations for smoking/substance use,  hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, obesity, sleep apnea, intracranial large artery atherosclerosis, and extracranial large artery atherosclerosis.
  • Describe stroke management recommendations, including antithrombotic regimen.
  • Discuss secondary stroke prevention in special situations, including prosthetic valves, cardiomyopathy, PFO, hypercoagulable states, and genetic disorders.

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

  • Identify characteristics of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, including definition, inheritance pattern, disease prevalence,  and differential diagnoses.
  • Describe adverse events associated with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
  • Explain the pathophysiologic myocardial changes that occur in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
  • Describe screening and evaluation recommendations for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
  • Explain indications for ICD placement in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
  • Discuss management of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, including pharmacologic and invasive options.
  • Identify lifestyle recommendations for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
